I know this is late but I have to honor my word. Here's what happened on day 28...
August 1, 2010
Well today is more of a waiting game. I'm still working on the report, and waiting to see what the data will look like after a full rebuild. It takes a day for them to complete the process, so the data will come in tomorrow. As for now I'm, working on trying to get the solenoid changes on the other line.
August 2, 2010
Well we have new data on the rebuild. There were some changes in the data, but very little. The same deviations were seen in the same heads after the rebuild so I do not believe the problem is in the heads. I'm trying to press on to get the solenoids changed, but people are very busy.
August 3, 2010
Last day. I don't think I will see what will happen if solenoid is changed. Well, its kind of a bitter sweet end. I kind of want to go back to work teaching, and kind of don't. Nevertheless, I realize where I'm supposed to be, in the classroom. I am excited to impart these experiences into my students now that I have a real perspective of what industry requires. It has been a great experience.

Day 27
July 30, 2010
As I'm working on this report, we're still moving with new tests. Looking at the data from when we swapped heads, not much deviation change occurred, however, I am seeing some differences in the means. So next week one line will rebuild their filler heads (should be interesting to see how the data changes) and then other line we will see if changing the solenoids will make any difference. Could not do much this afternoon do to a power surge and apparently all machines start acting like monsters after a power surge so they had to take care of some other business.

Day 25 & 26
July 28 & 29, 2010
Well we're moving and shaking.... Yesterday, I picked out a couple of filler heads with high standard deviation and exchanged them with ones with lower ones to see if there were any trends. I'm seeing some interesting things already but no conclusions yet. As you know it takes some time going through all the data. I've gone through 1 line and part of the other, so we'll see tomorrow.

Day 24
July 27, 2010
We got it! Finally (or at least we hope so) all kinks seem to be out of the code we are using to collect data. Now we just await for a more user friendly software to present this data on the lines. I guess I'm kind of jealous since I had to do the hard work. Oh well, this was new for the company and you have to start somewhere.
So right now, I'm taking this data and putting it into a report and one thing that I notice with my students is that they struggle with how to talk about data to someone else. The process of putting it in written form. In a math class, it's tough to get this in, so its overlooked, but it is very important in the real world.

Day 23
July 26, 2010
Today we are still getting the kinks out of the program we were using, and I think we've almost got it. I pulled some data on the two lines I'm working on and we're going to see if we can switch some heads around to see if it will be consitant after the change. We'll meet with the person responsible for the lines tomorrow.

Day 22
July 23, 2010
Well today was a great day! I saw the newspaper article and it looks great! Good job Ms. Brahm. Today I'm working on the report, and realized I had to do a little troubleshooting with some of the data. Apparently our capture tool has been picking up extraneous data points. It's not a big problem. We had a brainstorming session to find where the problem is and we saw it. Now we have to modify to code to by pass this problem. Brainstorming is always good when you find the answer. It's one of those things you have to learn not to give up on because there is always an answer. It would be cool for a student to get this point and not be frustrated when the answer is not right in their face. Never give up! There is always an answer!

Day 21
July 22, 2010
Today was an interesting day. I'm still working with the data, and we realized that our method of collecting data may not be as accurate, however it will still help in finding out what filler head is underperforming. So now it's time to compile this information into a nice little report. I also was interviewed by the Daily Iowan. I hate to admit, I was a little nervous, but I think it went well.
